Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in Carson City, within the Scoping Section of the Roadway Design Division. Incumbent will be responsible for developing and evaluating engineering conceptual designs, alternatives, and developing preliminary cost estimates. The duties for this position include: coordinating and conducting scoping team meetings; coordinating information from various Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) divisions, consultants, local agencies, and/or federal agencies; developing preliminary designs in accordance with standards set by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials(AASHTO), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); developing project scoping reports that include an evaluation of the risks and benefits of alternatives and recommendations; calculating and generating quantities, and preparing initial cost estimates. This position is also an active participant in the Department's Road Safety Audit (RSA) Program, providing engineering insight to potential safety issues. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A STAFF II, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER. INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL UPON MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
