The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 3 to serve as the Women Veterans Program Coordinator and the Rural Outreach for Veteran Enrichment and Resources Coordinator (ROVER). Duties include but are not limited to the following: serve as liaison with veterans' community stakeholders, service organizations, governments and other entities; engage and interact with women veterans to raise awareness and provide education on state and federal benefits; identify and maintain rosters of points-of-contacts of service providers that provide services specific for women; present benefits and services workshops to women veterans; assess the needs of women veterans and make recommendations regarding benefits and services; participate in workgroups and ceremonies; schedule and coordinate multiple events, conferences, seminars and ceremonies related to women veterans; compose and prepare press releases, news articles and newsletters; prepare and present speeches; conduct needs analysis surveys; research and compile data, prepare reports; develop and update databases and filing systems; develop and maintain the ROVER calendar, schedule ROVER appointments, coordinate travel arrangements and itineraries for Veteran Services Representatives; order and manage supplies and inventory within an identified budget; and other related duties. The incumbent may work with veterans who are dealing with emotionally sensitive and highly stressful issues. The position requires a high level of confidentiality and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
