The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
This recruitment will be used to underfill an Agriculturist 2. Automatic progression may occur upon the supervisor's approval and when minimum qualifications of the higher level have been met. This position will assist the Nevada produce safety program coordinator in providing outreach and education assistance on practices that minimize food safety risks on farms and in handling facilities. The position will be tasked with obtaining farm inventory data and will assist with developing a Nevada produce safety program. Regular interaction with the public, classroom training, and field work will be required of this position. In addition, grant report writing and travel throughout the state to provide produce safety training will be required. A valid Nevada Driver's License is required for this position.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience which provided experience in regulatory agricultural programs such as seed certification, pest control licensing, or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical inspection and enforcement experience related to agricultural programs.
Special Notes
    Restricted use Pesticide Applicator's Certificate is required as an ongoing condition of employment for some positions in the series.
