JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is an underfill for Environmental Health Specialist 3 located within the Nevada Division of Public & Behavioral Health, Regulatory & Planning Services, Environmental Health Section, Pahrump Office (formerly, Las Vegas Office). Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) Supervisor, this position will inspect and evaluate EHS permitted establishments in compliance with statutory requirements and assist the public with various EHS functions and information. The position will be involved in a wide variety of special projects to include gaining conformance and working on development and maintenance of the Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards and the associated federal grant. Duties may include special projects such as Cottage Foods and Recall Coordinator. The position will also investigate illnesses and other public health problems and perform other duties as assigned. EHS duties include permitting, management, education, enforcement, consultation, and emergency response for the purpose of prevention of environmental hazards and the promotion and protection of the public health and the environment in the following areas: manufactured and retail food protection - restaurant inspections; bottled water plants and distributors; cosmetic plants; public accommodations; RV parks; institutional environmental health; recreational swimming areas and waters; solid and liquid waste management; on site septic systems; water sanitation; and emergency preparedness. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which includes the satisfactory completion of at least 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours, of academic work in science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, sanitary engineering or environmental engineering and one year of experience performing professional environmental health duties for a regulatory environmental health agency; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Health Specialist I in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist is another state of by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee by the Nevada State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists is required within 90 days of appointment for the I and II levels of this series.
