Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services in Sparks, NV. Incumbents will provide direct patient care and selected other services to psychiatric patients; assist in developing and implementing unit activities and programs; work with other multi-disciplinary team members; and respond quickly and appropriately to medical and psychiatric emergencies to include assisting in physical containment procedures, requiring an individual to have sufficient stamina, strength and flexibility to implement these procedures. The position requires the ability to sit, bend and squat for short periods. Lifting and moving patients is necessary as well as running at times in response to psychiatric emergencies. This position will supervise the Mental Health Technician I, 2 and 3's providing developmental activities to assist with employees success. The job is in a 24 hour, 7 day a week facility and the individual applying should have no barriers to working night shift, swing shift, day shift or any combination of these shifts. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience, three of which were paraprofessional experience in a hospital, institutional, or residential, clinic, or community setting providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with mental illness or emotional disturbances. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279; OR one year of experience as a Mental Health Technician III or Developmental Support Technician III in Nevada State service and valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. |

Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis. |
