The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in the assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. The Substance Abuse Counselor 3 (SAC 3) provides direct supervision over the Substance Abuse Programming at Warm Springs Correctional Center, as well as provides direct clinical work that includes intakes, group facilitation, individual counseling and so on.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and two years of experience as a journey level Substance Abuse Counselor which must have included leading treatment teams, conducting clinical counseling, and implementing an established substance abuse program.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    A current, valid credential as Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
