Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Desert Regional Center, and will be located in Las Vegas, NV. The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) II will work with individuals with intellectual and or/ developmental disabilities and related conditions such as Autism, Seizures, Cerebral Palsy, and Traumatic Brain Injury. In many cases the individuals served also have mental health diagnoses. The MHC II conducts assessments through comprehensive record review, and interviews with individuals, family and team members. They integrate and analyze information to inform eligibility decisions and make recommendations for the appropriate level of care in supported living and work settings ensuring that support is offered in the least restrictive level as possible.
The MHC II oversees habitation plan development and assists with periodic review and monitoring of data to ensure fidelity and efficacy; participates in person-centered planning by attending support team meetings in which consumer goals are determined, appropriate strategies and plans are developed and modified as necessary; coordinates and integrates services among members of support teams and provider agencies; provides consultation services to consumers and their team members; and provides training to staff and providers as directed to build service delivery capacity for behavioral support. Travel up to 50% of the time may be required. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and promotes a positive work environment. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. |
