Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position works within the Department of Administration's Enterprise IT Services (EITS) Division, Desktop Support Unit, and is located in Carson City, NV. The IT Technician 6 is primarily responsible for 2nd level desktop support. Duties include monitoring a complex network consisting of LAN, WAN, with multiple platforms, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining Mobile Data Computer devices for Nevada Highway Patrol, mobile hand held devices, Desktop PC's, Laptops and, network equipment, and peripherals across the entire state of Nevada. This position also assists with Help Desk user support and server operations. Extensive travel (up to 50%) is likely when remote control tools or phone calls won't solve the problem.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software; OR one year of experience as an IT Technician V in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within 6 months of employment and recertification every 2 years for continued employment. Certification will be conducted by the Division.
This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
Statewide travel is required.
Working evenings, weekends and/or holidays is required.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Experience
Experience assisting on-site and off-site staff (using remote control software) in troubleshooting, repairing, upgrading, configuring, and installing computer software and hardware in an Enterprise environment is required.
Experience with Antivirus & Firewall software is required.
Experience with Help Desk ticketing software is required.
