The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Hydraulics Section of the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT's) Design Division in Carson City. Under general direction, incumbent performs hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analysis; designs highway drainage features including culverts, energy dissipaters, storm drain systems, channels, river training systems, detention/retention basins, erosion control, and water quality facilities; reviews design calculations, plans, and specifications to verify accuracy and compliance with state and federal guidelines; coordinates with other divisions and outside agencies; prepares hydrologic reports and plans as necessary; reviews and coordinates work performed by consultants; represents the Department at public hearings and informational meetings; and provides consultation to legal counsel on hydraulic issues. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A STAFF II POSITION. INCUMBENT MAY BE PROGRESSED TO THE NEXT LEVEL UPON MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
