The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in the assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Substance Abuse Counselor 1 works under close supervision and assists the Substance Abuse Counselor 3 in screening, assessing and evaluating inmates who have been identified as abusers of alcohol and/or drugs. Incumbents assist in delivering counseling and treatment in group and/or individual settings. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of social science approved by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and eligibility for certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern as established by State law and the Board.
Special Notes
    Substance Abuse Counselor I's must obtain certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor Intern from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors within 30 days of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
