Agricultural Inspectors perform sampling and inspection of agricultural products at shipping point inspection facilities, and participate in pest control and noxious weed eradication; check and grade condition of fruits and vegetables, and assist plant pathologists and entomologists in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs noxious weed field surveys and infestation mapping using GPS coordinates; performs noxious weed regulatory site inspections and provides notification to landowners on effective methods of control; performs inspections at agricultural and gravel pit sites identifying noxious and prohibited weeds; assists with biological control agent site selection, releases, and monitoring; performs other sampling and inspections of agricultural fields and products as assigned; and collaborates with the public and other government affiliates during seminars and trainings. This position has a travel requirement of over 50% and requires a valid driver's license.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in agricultural sciences or related sciences performing agriculture duties; OR one year of experience as an Agricultural Inspector II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Incumbents at the Agricultural Inspector III and IV levels are required to qualify for a federal-State license to issue certificates of quality and condition of agriculture products within three months of appointment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
