The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) is currently recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse II. The incumbent will be assigned to the East Las Vegas Clinic. Incumbents will be assigned to the Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT), a court-ordered program that assists individuals who are on an involuntary outpatient civil commitment. The program?s goal is to reduce re-hospitalizations and improve the prospects of rehabilitation. Incumbents will work with the AOT team in assisting clients with program compliance, allowing them to remain safely and independently in the community. AOT uses an assertive community treatment model. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying client health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations; making referrals to community services; service coordination; and providing outpatient or inpatient services. Incumbents will also identify and report problems in service delivery and prepare monthly statistical reports. Nursing responsibilities include checking vitals, administering injections, working with psychiatrists, and documentation. SNAMHS provides an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), yearly accrual of 15 days of annual leave and 15 days of sick leave. SNAMHS provides continual on-going training and education to staff including paid release time for attending approved trainings.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
