The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for one Correctional Nurse I for the Caliente Youth Center (CYC) a 140-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth age 12 to 18. Caliente is home to some of the most beautiful country in Nevada! This includes the magnificent Rainbow Canyon and the oasis-like setting of Kershaw-Ryan State Park just 2 miles south of the city center. Within 50 miles of the town are four other Nevada state parks: Beaver Dam, Cathedral Gorge, Spring Valley, and Echo Canyon. Caliente is a short distance, approximately 2 hours north, from the bright lights of Las Vegas, NV. The CYC goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking for youth. Nurses actively participate in a multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care to youth. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying youth health care needs; making clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction; provide routine, basic, and minor emergency care including stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; and ensure quality of care with established nursing standards and DCFS nursing policies.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
