The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position works under the general direction of the pest control program manager (Agriculturist 4) in administering state pest control licensing in the Nevada Department of Agriculture Pest Control Operations, Licensing, and Enforcement Program based in Las Vegas, NV. Responsibilities include inspecting pest control applicators at their office/warehouse and in the field according to neutral scheme inspection schedules and protocol. Conducting records inspections and audits of companies and operators. Work with companies and applicators to correct non-compliance issues with applicable code. Investigating verified complaints from the public as to possible violations of pesticide statutes and code. Inspections of restricted use pesticide (RUP) dealers for compliance with federal and state statute and code. Inspect producer establishments and fumigation treatments as needed. Maintains EPA inspector credentials including fulfilling training requirements and reports. Refers all potential violations to the program manager for possible enforcement actions. Manage the Nevada database for pest control licensing with the assistance of an Administrative Assistant II. Ensures that all paperwork for new pest control businesses, Principals, Operators, and Agents are processed in a timely manner and that licensing renewal packets for existing pest control companies are mailed in accordance with annual deadlines. Ensures that individuals licensing as Principals meet all State requirements. Refers potential violations of licensing issues to the program manager for possible enforcement actions. The incumbent will be required to work flexible rotating shifts. This position has a statewide travel requirement of over 50%.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and two years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, agricultural produce grading or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
    Restricted use Pesticide Applicator's Certificate is required as an ongoing condition of employment for some positions in the series.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
