The Position
Health Program Specialists plan, develop, implement and evaluate health services and activities; develop goals, objectives, program requirements and procedures; provide technical information regarding specialized health related conditions; and participate and provide support to various committees, advisory boards and other work groups.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The position is for a Health Program Specialist 1 within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Office of Public Health Informatics and Epidemiology (OPHIE). This position can be located in either Northern or Southern Nevada in Carson City, Reno or Las Vegas depending on the most qualified candidate. The position conducts data analysis and epidemiological analyses used in prevention and controlling specific communicable and chronic diseases, injuries, surveillance systems and other health conditions. Results of the work efforts aid in the monitoring of health status and its correlate, identifying trend or outbreaks of diseases or other adverse health events, and providing data and information to promote public health. Responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to, compiling, maintaining, and analyzing health data and reports; identifying causative agents or conditions resulting in adverse health conditions; proposing and/or initiating corrective action or epidemiological investigations; coordinating disease investigations; and coordinating local, State, and/or Federal programs investigating human morbidity and mortality. This position participates in the design and management of surveillance systems for diseases or conditions of public health importance, including continuous ongoing surveillance as well as specialized short-term surveillance, as well as analyzes a variety of statistical data and prepares numerous epidemiological and data reports relating to disease and health in the State. **A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.**

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a health science, behavioral science or closely related field applicable to the program area and two years of health-related experience which included at least two of the following areas: researching, collecting and analyzing data and statistics, developing objectives, protocols and procedures; providing health education services to target groups or the general public; evaluating program effectiveness and accomplishment of desired outcomes to meet agency, federal or other standards and guidelines; providing prevention, identification or treatment services to individuals or populations who have been diagnosed or are at risk of contracting life and health threatening diseases and/or conditions; and/or investigation and prevention of communicable or chronic diseases; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Additional Position Criteria
    Applicant must have direct (not only academic) disease investigation or epidemiological experience.
    Applicant must have experience developing epidemiological reports and conducting analysis.
