Wildlife Area Technicians may be assigned to work at a wildlife management area, on a water development
crew or as a regional utility person. Typical duties involve the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operating
light and heavy equipment, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and related activities intended to develop and enhance an environment which will support the State's wildlife species.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Incumbent will design and implement activities for the conservation and recovery of the endangered Moapa dace and other native fish species in the Muddy River in Clark County. The position will conduct fish and aquatic species monitoring and survey activities to develop and maintain baseline information on Muddy River fishes and will design and implement projects specifically to control, remove and eradicate invasive and nonnative species which impact recovery and survival of the native fish species. The position will implement at the field level detailed projects for eradication of nonnative species in the river using chemical pesticides and other methods, and will direct activities of field teams for those projects made up of other permanent, term and seasonal staff and biologists from other cooperating agencies. The position will maintain accurate records of project activities and biological monitoring, prepare required reports, provide routine maintenance of project-related equipment, and assist other biologists with associated field activities.
This position is a grant-funded time-limited (GFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in maintenance, farming or construction, one of which was maintaining lands for wildlife, constructing dikes, ditches or roads; applying fertilizers; managing water levels and manipulating flow of water; maintaining equipment and structures by cleaning, painting, repairing and rebuilding structures; and collecting data and surveying wildlife by counting and inventorying species; and/or constructing and/or repairing wildlife water catchment devices; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Wildlife Technician I in Nevada State service.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4006, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires extensive field work, in extreme weather conditions, carrying nets, traps, and equipment through water and desert.
