Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This Psychiatric Nurse 2 (PN II) position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services - Desert Regional Center in Las Vegas, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers. The mission of the ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. Desert Regional Center (DRC) is a 24 Hour Intermediate Care Facility/Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/ID) Campus. This is a very rewarding and specialized field of nursing working with extremely difficult individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Mental Illness and closely related conditions such as, Autism, Seizure Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, etc.
The PN II will maintain the health, safety, and well-being of individuals and is responsible for the medical coordination of care, of health services and treatment; collaborates with professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure optimum patient care and safety; carry out therapeutic procedures which provide for the emotional and physical comfort of patients; identifies patient health care needs utilizing professional nursing skills; administers treatments and medications per physician's orders; make comprehensive clinical observations and assessments based on information, for the evaluation of health needs; monitoring for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction and effectiveness; provides emergency medical treatment such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) use of AED and must make assessments, choices, determinations and judgments in all aspects of their work. The incumbent will advocate on behalf of the individuals served to have the best possible health and assist them in achieving meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

2) Are you able to work four 10 hour shifts, including week-ends and holidays?

3) Do you possess and maintain a current CPR/AED Certification, license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and NV Driver's License? Two years of professional nursing experience, one of which includes, working in a facility or institution with individuals with Mental Illness, Intellectual Disabilities or related conditions.

4) Do you have working knowledge of current nursing practices, principles, methods and procedures, universal precautions, and infection control techniques; medical terminology sufficient to understand?
