Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
All living things depend on water, yet few people recognize that water is actually a limited resource. With less than one percent of the water found on earth being drinkable freshwater, it is certainly important to maintain its quality. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is looking for candidates ready to make water quality a top issue in their daily lives! This position is located within the Stormwater Division, in Las Vegas. Incumbents within this division will use resources and education to maintain adherence to strict environmental regulations. The mandates set forth are critical, as the success of future generations depends on adherence to the clean practices of today.
Incumbent is responsible for performing stormwater field inspections pertaining to compliance with the Statewide Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System NPDES permits to include: assuring maintenance facility stormwater compliance, Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE), industrial facility monitoring, and construction site inspections; preparing technical engineering memoranda and letters relating to permit compliance; reviewing and resolving conflicts associated with stormwater permit related activities for highway construction projects, utility projects, NDOT maintenance activities, or existing facilities; and assuring illicit discharges are swiftly and professionally dealt with in compliance with NDOT Stormwater policies and practices. Duties also include participating in the design process for projects being implemented in District I, performing engineering review of plans and specifications, and developing constructive comments and concerns regarding stormwater related items.

INCUMBENT MAY MOVE TO THE NEXT LEVEL UPON MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH ENDORSEMENT OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY. Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
