The Position
Microbiologists perform a variety of microbiological, serological, parasitological, immunological, molecular and clinical laboratory tests and procedures to detect, isolate and identify microorganisms in milk, blood, urine, feces, tissue and other samples; analyze, record and report test results in assigned program areas such as disease control and clinical and environmental testing.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This Microbiologist 2 works within the Department of Agriculture's Veterinary Medical Services in the Animal Disease Laboratory as an underfil for a Microbiologist III. Upon meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and at the appointing authorities discretion, the incumbent may be progressed to a Microbiologist 3. The selected applicant will work with standard diagnostic laboratory equipment and will be expected to work independently; implement quality assurance requirements; and compare, contrast, analyze and report test results.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in microbiology, biochemistry, medical technology or closely related field and one year of professional experience in a laboratory setting; OR one year as a Microbiologist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience above the bachelor's degree level.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Please describe your experience with analytical equipment - specifically RT-PCR.
2) Please describe your experience in molecular diagnostics, particularly pathogen DNA and RNA detection from a variety of samples.
