Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
This position is located within the Information Technology Division, Carson City. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Information Technology (IT) Rotator Program is a challenging two year rotational position with an emphasis on learning the various components of how IT assists the Department in meeting its missions and goals. Participants complete rotations within the NDOT IT division and will have the opportunity to get exposure to multiple disciplines while developing and applying new skills as they progress through the program. The incumbent will spend between 4 and 12 weeks in each of the following areas: Service Desk, PC Technician, Networking, Systems, GIS, Application Development, Business Intelligence, Project Management, Information Security, and Database Administration.
The incumbent will engage as a member of a technical team to help solve problems under the direct guidance of a supervisor and/or peers; conduct research and analysis, and assist with preparing various documents to report on current projects; and learn new applications, tools, and technical skills needed to complete assigned work. The overall goal of the program is to offer a unique learning and career development opportunity to individual(s) who are in the early stages of their careers or who are interested in honing their technical skills.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and one year of IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, and/or applications analysis and development; OR one year of experience as an IT Professional Trainee in Nevada State service; OR three years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
