The Position
GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, supporting and administering all aspects of a department's and/or division's enterprise geographic information system.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located in Carson City within the Maintenance and Asset Management Division. The incumbent will be responsible for mapping, designing, implementing, supporting, and administering all aspects of the Division's enterprise geographic information system (GIS). Responsibilities also include planning, designing, modifying, implementing, administering, and maintaining geospatial data layers and databases; delivering GIS applications and services to meet business and information needs; developing data architecture for web and mobile device software interfaces to capture level-of-service surveys and other asset data collection (i.e. signs, guardrails, striping, shoulder drop-off, highway safety features, maintenance task, facilities management, etc.); mapping, performing analyses, and reporting of asset data and asset condition assessments; presenting analysis results; managing all GIS related databases maintained by the Division; designing and developing GIS applications and tools to automate processes and facilitate analyses and reporting; designing, implementing, and maintaining GIS dataset and communicating analytical results; and using Global Positioning System (GPS) hardware and software to collect and validate data in the field.
Duties will also include serving as a subject matter expert on current GIS best practices and escalating technical issues where appropriate; maintaining and demonstrating proficiency with current and developing GIS technologies and software; providing on-going support for GIS programs and functions including troubleshooting problems associated with existing GIS applications, tools, and data; providing strong technical expertise to identify, define, plan, and implement processes. The incumbent must have strong communication skills including active listening, feedback, and problem solving; and require minimal direction in daily operations; and must be able to work independently as well as part of teams. Experience with enterprise geodatabases, map services, and ArcGIS Online is preferred. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, geography, cartography or a closely related field which included coursework in geographic information systems and two years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience; OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, geography, cartography or a closely related field which included coursework in geographic information systems and three years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Transportation GIS Analyst I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
