Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Compliance Investigators are responsible for performing investigations regarding the violations of State and/or federal laws or regulations pertaining to dealers, brokers, drive schools, garages, auto body shops, wreckers and salvage pools. Incumbents work to ensure regulations are being adhered to throughout the automotive industry and perform inspections of the businesses regulated by the NV Department of Motor Vehicles in order to monitor compliance and detect violations of the State of Nevada Statutes and Administrative Codes. Compliance Investigators are also tasked with investigating complaints and collecting facts in order to facilitate the determination of whether an entity or individual has committed violation(s). Compliance Investigators prepare concise written reports of investigative findings and recommendations as they relate to the applicable statutes/codes. Compliance Investigators are also required to testify at Administrative Hearings.
This position(s) is located in our Las Vegas office within the Compliance Enforcement Division. Appointment(s) to this position will be responsible for overseeing the automotive industry located in the Southern region of Nevada. Expected travel related to inspections and investigations is 50% of the time.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, political science, psychology, social work, business administration or other discipline related to the assignment and one year of investigative experience as an investigator in a specified program area where standard investigative techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations and prepare detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in a law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or compliance setting; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Compliance Investigator I in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position requires up to 50% of local and overnight travel.
