The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents independently resolve many users' PC issues including email and applications problems and record calls using the help desk application. Incumbents identify and decide how to resolve problems themselves or through appropriate referral; use utilities to check for network connectivity; and establish user rights. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE POSTED CLOSING DATE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The current vacancy at PERS will perform as a Help Desk technician and will assist external and internal users with various problems, e.g., website, system, network, applications, email, printers and phones by determining the nature of the problem and entering it into our ticket tracking system. Incumbent will be required to provide customer service via the telephone and will be expected to handle large call volumes in a professional manner; create and maintain specific records and documentation pertinent to PERS computer systems and programs; perform required maintenance on printers; prioritize jobs and workload based on time commitments and hardware resources; provide quality control of jobs in order to ensure jobs are run correctly; troubleshoot and analyze problems to determine if problems can be corrected by the operator or if a higher level IT staff member must be called; understand and interpret user job schedules; set up new user workstations, phones and peripherals; data uploads and downloads, backups, data restores and any additional duties as assigned. This IT Technician will be required to travel to the Las Vegas office at least one day a month, if not more.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, two years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    This position has a 25% travel requirement.
