Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
The position is located in the State Treasurer's Office in Las Vegas. The position is responsible for administering the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship (GGMS) Program which consists of analyzing student data for payment to colleges; interpreting scholarship provisions; communicating with recipients, parents and the general public; maintaining accurate records; and establishing relationships with communities and high schools to provide information about the program. In addition, this position will be responsible for the outreach and promotion of the College Savings Plans of Nevada in southern Nevada. This includes establishing and fostering relationships with community organizations and schools to promote awareness of and participation in the college savings plans. The successful candidate must possess excellent analytical and communication skills, be a self-starter capable of working remotely with an administrative assistant which supports GGMS, excel in working as part of a team, and think creatively to share ideas to move the programs forward. The position requires periodic travel, evening and weekend event coverage, public speaking, and basic accounting work. Prior experience working in higher education or in the financial services industry preferred. Bilingual language ability a plus.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university in public administration or a related field; OR graduation from high school or the equivalent and four years of previous experience either performing or assisting in the planning, coordinating or administering of a program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
