The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) and is assigned to the Rawson-Neal Hospital located at 1650 Community College Drive in Las Vegas. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) IV takes vital signs and documents findings in the electronic record. MHT's will be called upon to assist with select nursing procedures and plan and implement daily care for assigned patients, observing consumers for changes in physical, mental or emotional status. The MHT is charged to use appropriate self-defense and take-down techniques and respond quickly and appropriately to medical and psychiatric emergencies; demonstrate proactive human relations skills, sound knowledge of consumers, their behaviors and safe practices; assist consumers in activities of daily living; supervises bathing and grooming activities; helps develop and implement unit activities and programs, working cooperatively with other multi-disciplinary team members; and work to improve the therapeutic environment and enhance recovery within the inpatient setting. The Mental Health Technician IV acts as supervisor to a group of other techs. Incumbent will be called upon to exercise leadership, model appropriate behaviors as defined in the agency competencies, manage performance, and influence and motivate techs to reach the expected level of excellence in care. Successful candidates will be highly competent communicators and be able to lead and motivate staff. Because team-building and collaboration will be key functions of the position, candidates will need to be empowering and able to develop staff members. Maintaining high ethical standards in all job elements, the MHT IV will need to be proficient in conflict management and resolution and work toward creating an environment that is free from disruptive behaviors and works to maintain the highest standard of patient care. Incumbent will be working an innovative variable schedule, with overtime after 40 hours per week.

Through a team approach, we provide innovative inpatient and outpatient mental health services for the Southern Nevada community. Some of the valuable services we provide include Psychiatric Emergency Services, Inpatient Services, Mobile Crises, Outpatient Counseling, Service Coordination, Intensive Service Coordination, Medication Clinic, Residential Support Programs, Mental Health Court, Consumer Advocacy and Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams. Inpatient services are provided through the new Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. Outpatient services are provided through four mental health clinics located throughout the Las Vegas community and four rural locations. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience, three of which were paraprofessional experience in a hospital, institutional, or residential, clinic, or community setting providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with mental illness or emotional disturbances. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279; OR one year of experience as a Mental Health Technician III or Developmental Support Technician III in Nevada State service and valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279.
Special Notes
    CPR certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    First aid certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
The Examination
MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN IV (10.338) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

5) Do you have a certification in CPR?
6) Do you have a certification as a Mental Health Technician III or equivalent certification?
7) Describe your experience in medical charting.
