The Position
Park Interpreters plan, organize, provide and supervise a variety of interpretive facilities, services and activities and assist in the operation and maintenance of an assigned State park.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, near Las Vegas, NV. Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is a Nationally Registered Historic District located within Red Rock Canyon that has significant cultural, natural, and scenic resources. Candidates must possess skills and abilities to function in a fast paced and fluid environment. Job duties include visitor services, interpretation of park resources, custodial services, buildings and grounds maintenance, fee collection, visitor center/gift shop supervision, and volunteer management. This position is responsible for developing, preparing, and implementing park interpretive programs and tours at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, as well as managing and curating historic items and structures. The position recruits, trains, and supervises park volunteers and seasonal staff. This position also collects park fees and gift shop sales, makes deposits, provides emergency medical assistance, informs public of park rules and regulations, and ensures compliance with park policies and procedures. This position requires the use of general office equipment, cash registers, credit card machines, 4-wheel drive vehicles, light farm/ranch equipment, and basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PastPerfect Museum Software. Social media management and photography are important skills for this position. Park Interpreters are required to work variable hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, and may be required to respond to callouts or emergencies. Park housing is not available at this location.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management, outdoor recreation management, history/folklore, education, ecology, forestry, biology, agriculture, natural or environmental sciences, horticulture, wildlife management, museum management, business or public administration or related field and one year of professional park experience which included developing, managing and presenting interpretive and/or educational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Positions require work on evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
