The Position
Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.
This position, under general supervision, processes submittals of Reports of Conveyance in order to update the records of the Division of Water Resources to reflect changes in ownership by verifying and abstracting all documents supporting the chain of title. The incumbent conducts research to evaluate authenticity of chain of title, resolves discrepancies, and verifies quantities and distribution of water rights; and summarizes all data collected to support final determination and writes letters accordingly. The incumbent provides public assistance to individuals, developers, realtors, attorneys, engineers, municipalities, etc.; conducts technical and statutory review of water rights applications and maps for publication; and performs annual field work collecting water rights pumpage and static water level surveys and appends compiled data into electronic records. This position is a permanent position that is currently funded through a Department of Energy Grant.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil, mechanical, chemical or metallurgical engineering, mathematics or closely related field; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college, university or technical school with major course work in engineering, engineering technology, math or related field and one year of technical engineering experience which involved a variety of related tasks, knowledge in a specialized engineering function or program area, and the application of detailed work procedures, techniques, standards and controls; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with AutoCAD Mapping and/or GIS is required.
