Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Hydraulics Section of the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT's) Design Division in Carson City. Under general direction, incumbent performs hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analysis; designs highway drainage features including culverts, energy dissipaters, storm drain systems, channels, river training systems, detention/retention basins, erosion control, and water quality facilities; reviews design calculations, plans, and specifications to verify accuracy and compliance with state and federal guidelines; coordinates with other divisions and outside agencies; prepares hydrologic reports and plans as necessary; reviews and coordinates work performed by consultants; represents the Department at public hearings and informational meetings; and provides consultation to legal counsel on hydraulic issues.

Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) |

A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment.
|

The practice of engineering does not include land surveying or the work ordinarily performed by persons who operate or maintain machinery or equipment.
|
|
Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
