The Position
Plumbers perform skilled plumbing work to maintain and repair plumbing systems, fixtures and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located at Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center in North Las Vegas, NV. Incumbents are responsible to maintain and repair all plumbing and devices which utilize water, steam, oil, gas and sewage. Incumbents install water supply, waste, steam and gas lines and related fixtures and fittings in accordance with the plumbing code; review blueprints; design and lay out plumbing systems; cut and thread; weld or solder pipes; assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes; inspect for leakage; install sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, and backflow devices and trouble shoot any problems with plumbing works and equipment associated with the conveyance of water, steam, oil, gas and sewage. They maintain, service and repair the equipment, perform routine preventative maintenance and order parts and/or materials. Plumbers will maintain all documentation relating to these functions. Plumbers assist contractors by providing information regarding the existing structure, equipment, systems and required modification; review bids and work completed by contractors for quality and conformance with specifications and codes as assigned. Knowledge of state and local plumbing codes required. Must have the ability to train inmates in all facets of plumbing systems and function as a lead worker for an inmate crew will be required to document inmate performance through completion of periodic performance reports and be responsible for implementing security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools and equipment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
