Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) has a career opportunity for a Mental Health Counselor to work in our Child Welfare program located in Yerington, NV. As a Mental Health Counselor you would provide Intensive Family Services (IFS) to families involved with the child welfare system. Staff provide in-home, family centered, intensive services including therapy/counseling, skill-building, supportive services, advocacy, mental health assessments for children and their parents and clinical case management to complex, high risk families. IFS provides diagnosis to Child Welfare Workers for custody children needing Medicaid or a higher level of care; crisis intervention for non-IFS clients; placement disruption services; and case consultation services for other DCFS program staff. IFS does not replicate existing services and is not considered a mental health program, but rather a clinical child welfare program designed to intervene quickly with families where safety threats have been identified and removal of children is imminent, without effective preventative services. IFS prioritizes efforts to enhance deficient caregiver protective capacities to mitigate safety factors.
The State of Nevada and DCFS offer an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), accrual of 15 days of annual and 15 days of sick leave, 11 paid holidays and no city, county, state or social security tax! DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain CEU's. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS), together in partnership with families, communities and other governmental agencies provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. DCFS is an extremely complex organization with incredibly dedicated and professional staff committed to building strong communities through strengthening families.
