The Tort Claims Analyst analyze legal liability and conduct statewide investigations, evaluations, negotiations and adjustments of tort claims filed against the State of Nevada with the Office of the Attorney General.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Tort Claim Analyst summarizes all evidence; conducts both legal and non-legal research to identify areas of concern; determines liability and writes detailed reports; drafts correspondence to claimants, attorneys, and/or insurance companies; negotiates settlement and claimants and claimants' attorneys and/or insurance companies; and recommends final settlement costs. The position provides support when litigation is filed against the State when settlement cannot be negotiated through the claims process; assists the Deputy Attorney General in case preparation by gathering supporting documentation for the case; prepares court exhibits; arranges for lay and expert witnesses, briefing them on case particulars; drafts legal documents for attorney review when requested; and attends proceedings as an assistant to the Deputy Attorney General.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in risk management, business administration, public administration or closely related field and three years of experience which involved vehicle accident investigation, insurance adjusting, and/or paralegal experience in tort claim litigation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Half of the qualifying experience may be in damage appraisal and/or tort litigation.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
