The Position
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Law Enforcement Conservation Education Coordinator will coordinate, promote and implement statewide boating education programs; create and promote law enforcement programs statewide; handle all media relations and communications needs for the Law Enforcement Division and will set program emphasis, budget and direction for Boating Education, Operation Game Thief and other law enforcement community outreach programs. Position will assist and coordinate with Conservation Education Division regarding public relations, press releases, and social media. The position will also assist the Conservation Education Division with the Department's publications development.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and four years of professional experience in conservation education which includedpresenting and evaluating educational programs, writing news releases, developing written materials for the public, providing interviews for print and broadcast media and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR two years of experience as a Conservation Educator III or one year of experience as a Conservation Educator IV in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
Additional Position Criteria
    Boating experience or knowledge (such as boating rules, operations, ability, etc).
The Examination

Staff Conservation Educator: Boating Education Program
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your professional public relations experience with: A) community organizations and public contacts; B) community education and outreach; C) crisis media relations relating to law enforcement cases; D) Public affairs management for law enforcement, military or similar agency. Please include the number of years and where the experience was gained.
2) Describe your experience in the following: A) designing an outdoor education program; B) developing and implementing an outdoor education program including developing guidelines and procedures. Please include the number of years and where the experience was gained.
3) Describe your experience writing formal reports, newsletters and directives. Please include the number of years and where the experience was gained.
4) Describe your professional experience, including the number of years, communicating and coordinating with other governmental agencies or standards-setting agencies.
5) Describe your grants management experience in the following: A) writing grant requests; B) working with grantees; C) monitoring costs and budgets. Please include the number of years and where the experience was gained.
6) Describe your experience supervising other wildlife, education or communications professionals. Please include the number of years, where the experience was gained and the titles of staff supervised.
