Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
This position is within the Environmental Services Division, Biology Section, and can be located in Carson City, Elko, or Ely depending on the candidate's preference.
The incumbent will conduct biological field surveys, research and investigations to identify biological resources present within or near a project; prepare reports and assessments, monitor construction activities, develop suitable mitigation to address impacts, and ensure compliance with permits and other biological commitments; and secure State and federal permits in conformance with the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This is not an enforcement position. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position requires in-state travel up to 50% of the time. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive areas.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and eighteen months of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR eighteen months of experience as an Environmental Scientist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires work experience with technical writing in biology, wildlife management, impact assessments, mitigation formulations, and/or NEPA documents. |
|
This position requires work experience with identification of plant and/or animal species. |
|
This position requires work experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and/or project partners. |
