The Position
Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Legal Secretary II position will support two Deputys Attorney General with the heavy litigation duties in the Post-Conviction Unit as well as one Deputy Attorney General and one Division Investigator with the duties of the Missing Children Division within the Post-Conviction Unit in the Attorney General's Office located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The secretary assigned to this position must have a level of expertise to handle the litigation duties associated with the cases assigned in this division, knowledge of various court rules, procedures and electronic filing and knowledge of administrative processes and procedures. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of Family Court practices and procedures in Nevada as well as the ability to coordinate with Family Courts outside of Nevada. This person must possess the ability to cooperate and work with all law enforcement agencies as well as children and family support services agencies within, and occasionally outside of, the United States. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
