Chemists analyze air, water, tissue, milk, petroleum products, antifreeze, soil, cement, paint, construction materials, pesticide residue and other samples; operate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation; identify and document sample contents and contaminants; provide testimony to State boards, lawmakers and industry; and maintain records of results.

Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

This position is located within the Materials Division in Carson City. Incumbent will supervise the Materials Chemical Lab. Duties include receiving, testing, and reporting samples of paint, metals, cement, and other materials from statewide construction projects; supervising a Chemist 3 who performs similar duties; and communicating with resident engineers, suppliers, and other agencies regarding matters related to the Chemical Lab.
