The Position
Social Services Chiefs manage the overall design, analysis, development and evaluation of social services programs.
The position works for the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services in the Child Care unit located in Carson City. Under general direction, incumbents develop, implement and direct the statewide day-to-day operations of the child care program. Services managed at this level require knowledge and interpretation of federal and state laws and regulations governing social service programs; current social and economic trends impacting programs; statistical data gathering analyzing and reporting; and management principals. Incumbents must have the knowledge and skills to enter into contracts with service providers; prepare draft bills and legislative testimony; prepare, monitor and administer program budgets; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, peers, vendors, legal entities, federal officials, other agencies and businesses; write professional level reports, correspondence, policy and program documents; and promote ideas, procedures, policies and actions.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public or business administration or related field and four years of professional social services experience which included directing social services or the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex federal regulations, writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management. Two years of the required experience must have included supervision of staff at a paraprofessional level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
The Examination
SOCIAL SERVICES CHIEF 2 (12.301) - WELFARE - Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question.
