Under general supervision, Equipment Operation Instructors provide training in the safe operation and
preventive maintenance of highway maintenance and other equipment, provide other job related training, and
maintain training records.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in Reno, NV. Incumbent instructs department employees in operational procedure, equipment operation, safety, and daily servicing and maintenance of highway maintenance equipment; certifies personnel on various heavy equipment once they have achieved proficiency in accordance with the equipment operator training and certification program; provides classroom instruction followed by hands on training in safety, traffic control, flagging procedures, hazardous communications, OSHA recertification, CPR/first aid, and assists with the CDL program. Duties also include conducting safety inspections of maintenance stations, and work zones; providing assistance by addressing unsafe working conditions; and investigating vehicle, personal injury, and property damage accidents involving agency personnel and/or vehicles. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience operating a variety of complex highway construction and maintenance equipment; OR three years of experience as Highway Maintenance Worker III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law required random testing for controlled substances during employment. |

A valid Class A commercial driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. |
