The Position
Psychiatric Caseworkers monitor the treatment and progress of mentally ill or developmentally disabled clients, perform day treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation activities, and coordinate discharge and aftercare services, in an outpatient, inpatient, clinic, residential, treatment center, client's home and other community settings.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is currently recruiting for Psychiatric Caseworker IIs. These positions will initially be assigned to Stein Forensic Hospital, which is a secure forensic hospital providing inpatient forensic services for adults who are court committed, serving Southern Nevada. Psychiatric Caseworkers assess and reassess the clients' level of functioning by interviewing clients, family members, and other community contacts. Incumbents will evaluate clients' needs and resources to determine the level of assistance needed; and refer clients to appropriate services according to the service/care coordination plan. Incumbents in this series often work in a team to provide service coordination, make referrals to other service providers and community resources, and discuss mental and emotional conditions among others. The position requires crises intervention techniques, documenting client progress, and assessing client needs and resources available. It also requires knowledge in case management practices and procedures; laws governing abuse and neglect of clients; and treatment planning and implementation.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, or closely related human services field and two years of experience in a mental health or intellectual disabilities setting, one year of which must have included professional casework experience providing psychosocial rehabilitation services for a caseload consisting predominantly of individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Caseworker I in Nevada State Service; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education above the bachelor's degree level.
Special Requirements
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required and is a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
