Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Desert Regional Center, and will be located in Las Vegas, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and promotes a positive work environment. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
This position will be assigned to the Community Services Program of Desert Regional Center in Las Vegas-Flamingo Satellite office. The Development Specialist -IV (DS-IV) will function as a first-line supervisor who trains, supervises, evaluates the performance of assigned Developmental Specialists (DS) staff; assigns and reviews work; and initiates disciplinary action. The incumbent will oversee and train seven to eight DRC Service Coordinators who provide case management to individuals with intellectual disabilities and related conditions; (Autism, Seizures, Cerebral Palsy, etc.). The DS IV is responsible to assure that DS staff services provided to consumers are in alignment with Aging Developmental Services Division policies, Medicaid, and Waiver, and NRS requirements. The DS IV reviews all of their staff's Serious Occurrence Reports, agency correspondence, contracts, and payment authorizations signed by the DS subordinates to assure appropriateness of approvals. The DS IV reviews staff documentation in the clinical files, assures that staff are appropriately billing for services. The DS IV will find coverage for their subordinates' cases when the subordinate is absent for a period of time. The DS IV is responsible for coordination of DS community programs such as; Jobs and Day Training, Supported Living, Family Support Services, etc. The DS IV is required to attend agency sponsored functions in the community. The DS IV meets with parents or community contracted providers to assure good communication and understanding of developmental services. The DS IV appears in court with subordinate staff, attends various meetings with other public agencies including; DFS, DCFS, Schools, etc. The DS IV will assume the supervision of the Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) Program and its assigned Coordinator(s). The DS IV meets with subordinate staff to problem solve, give clinical supervision and direction on the consumer's treatment plans. The DS-IV may also sit on various agency committees including: Human Rights, Behavior Intervention Committee, Eligibility Review, Accreditation Work groups, etc.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field and three years of professional experience providing developmental, special education, intervention or treatment-oriented services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions; OR one year of experience as a Developmental Specialist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a bachelor's degree and experience as described above. |
