The Position
Air National Guard Airport Rescue Firefighters respond to emergency incidents involving all forms of civilian, commercial and military aircraft, structure or wildland fires, alarms, and other emergencies.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Incumbent must be able to perform all aspects of the Assistant Fire Chief series, this position may be assigned to either Assistant Chief of Operations or Assistant Chief of Training. Develops and administers a training program to ensure all assigned personnel are trained to the level prescribed in the Class Concept and as per AFI 32-2001_ANGSUP_I 30 September 2010. Nevada Air National Guard Firefighters primarily provide Airfield rescue and Fire Fighting support for the flying operations of the 152nd Airlift Wing at the Reno/Tahoe Airport. The NVANG Fire Department is an all risk department that responds to emergencies on base and supports local Fire Departments through mutual aid agreements. NVANG Firefighters provide fire prevention services including: inspection, maintenance and testing of installation facilities and installed systems (Fire Alarm/Detection, Suppression); Inspection and maintenance of all fire extinguishers; Base wide training and education for extinguisher use and evacuation procedures. NVANG firefighters support statewide response to wildland fire emergencies. Assistant fire chiefs at the Nevada Air National Guard are shift supervisors that lead Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting operations as well as all other emergency responses. The Assistant Chief is a rescue team leader that also provides initial command and control. The Assistant Chief identifies training requirements of assigned shift, coordinates and directs all shift training activities; provides overall safety for assigned shift and manages all administrative functions including personnel issues; assigned Fire Prevention tasks and ensures safe working conditions, supervises assigned full-time and on duty military personnel ensuring department operations are performed as specified by the Fire Chief. The Assistant Chief represents the Department as the senior Fire Officer in the absence of the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief in all administrative and operational capacities.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of professional firefighting experience which involved prevention and suppression of aircraft, structural and wildland fires, one year of which must have been in a lead worker capacity; OR one year of experience as a Crew Chief (Air National Guard) in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Applicants must be in good physical condition and may be required to pass a thorough medical examination and physical agility test prior to appointment and as a continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A Secret military security clearance is required.
    Possession of a Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Employees must obtain a Military Motor Vehicle Operator card within one month of appointment.
    Possession of an International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or equivalent certification as a Driver/Operator ARFF and Driver/Operator Pumper is required within one year of appointment.
    Possession of current certification in Nevada as an Emergency Medical Technician at the time of hire is required for the Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief and Crew Chief.
    Possession of current International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or equivalent certification as a Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector I, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander and Hazardous Materials Operations is required at the time of hire.
    Possession of current International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or equivalent certification as a Fire Officer III, and Fire Instructor II is required within one year of hire.
