The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) and is assigned to the Laughlin Behavioral Health Center at 3650 South Pointe Circle, #208, Laughlin, NV, 89029. Our Agency's mission is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life. Incumbents provide professional, positive, and therapeutic direct care to mentally ill adult clients and severely emotionally disturbed youth. Incumbents receive training in all duties assigned and will work directly with a team of clinicians, psychiatric nurses, and other mental health professionals. This position will provide individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, teach basic life skills, and introduce community activities to consumers; take vital signs, observe and document findings in the electronic record system; and transport clients to and from appointments using a state vehicle. As condition for continued employment, Mental Health Technicians are required to comply with NRS 433.279 and become a Certified Mental Health Technician III within 2 years from date of hire, through completion of required coursework. This certification is a progression requirement [5 credits from Tech I to Tech II and 5 credits from Tech II to Tech III], but it is also the primary clinical training program for technicians. Once certified, the technician must maintain certification by completing 20 hours of continuing education units, every two years, following the date on which initial certification was issued. This position requires completion of respirator fit testing, completion of Certification in Conflict Prevention and Response Training and CPR certification.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact which may have included providing care or guidance for children, elders or others; volunteer work in providing respite to caregivers; or leading youth groups; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    CPR certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    First aid certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
