GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, supporting and administering all aspects of a department's and/or division's enterprise geographic information system.
The Transportation GIS Analyst II position represents the journey level in the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) IT GIS job series. The incumbent will be an active member of the IT Division's GIS team with a focus on back-end support of the Agency's GIS effort. Transportation GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and administering all aspects of NDOT's enterprise geographic information system (GIS). NDOT is working to seamlessly integrate GIS throughout the Agency so that employees can use a common infrastructure for building and deploying GIS solutions. The NDOT IT GIS team supports enterprise GIS solutions including ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS for Portal.
The IT GIS Team works with divisional GIS Data Stewards to design, modify, implement, administer, and document spatial data including workflow and procedure. This incumbent will also be actively engaged in high-level development, administration, and promotion of a data governance model supporting an effective buildout for enterprise services. The incumbent will provide direct assistance to NDOT divisions with web maps, geoprocessing models, ArcMap tools, scripts, and editing tasks including versioning. Ongoing duties include serving as a subject matter expert on current GIS best practices and escalating technical issues where appropriate. The incumbent must demonstrate and maintain proficiency with current and developing GIS technologies and software. The incumbent will provide on-going support for GIS programs and functions including troubleshooting problems associated with existing GIS applications, tools, and data.
The incumbent must have strong technical expertise in order to identify, define, plan, and implement processes. The ability to communicate with the divisions, understand needs, and translate needs into a discussion is critical. In addition to working with GIS Data Stewards & GIS users, the incumbent will be working closely with NDOT IT staff on GIS-related operations. The incumbent will work with the server, network, desktop, and application development teams to resolve GIS related issues in a timely and professional manner. Experience with enterprise geodatabases, map services, and ArcGIS Online is preferred. The incumbent must have strong communication skills including active listening, feedback, and problem solving. The incumbent will require minimal direction in daily operations and must be able to work independently as well as part of teams.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, geography, cartography or a closely related field which included coursework in geographic information systems and two years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience; OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, geography, cartography or a closely related field which included coursework in geographic information systems and three years of progressively responsible professional GIS experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Transportation GIS Analyst I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
