The Position
Transportation Technicians perform a variety of technical duties related to traffic and roadway characteristics on State highways; install traffic monitoring devices; perform minor repairs on traffic control and monitoring equipment, and compile and maintain detailed records and information.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is located in Carson City within the Planning and Roadway Systems Division. Under direct supervision- incumbent will receive training in the performance of a variety of technical duties in the office and field. Duties are assigned through specific instructions- and reviewed for technical accuracy. Incumbent will be responsible for collection of roadway data using a variety of collection systems, including Global Positioning Systems (GPS); coding, and tabulating highway information statistics; performing road inventory with the use of video photographic equipment to record position data for roads and points on road. Travel will be required up to 75% of the time throughout the State. **THIS IS THE ENTRY LEVEL IN THE TRANSPORTATION TECHNICIAN SERIES. INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL UPON MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH RECOMMENDATION OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.** Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of general labor or semi-skilled experience which included the operation of tools and equipment and/or responsibility for a delivery route requiring the operation of a vehicle and determining locations of delivery sites.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    As a condition of employment, pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.  Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances.
    This position has a 75% travel requirement to include traveling to rural Nevada.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
