The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking a Social Services Program Specialist III (SSPSIII) to be located in Carson City. The purpose of this position is to provide statewide continuous quality assurance and improvement as it relates to child welfare abuse and neglect cases. It is an important position ensuring foundational knowledge in child abuse and neglect as it relates to the safety, permanency and well-being of children. The position will conduct reviews of professional social workers or case managers who have been trained in child welfare practice. A knowledge of federal and state laws as it relates to child abuse and neglect is desirable. The work responsibilities include statewide Continuous Quality Assurance/Improvement activities related to child abuse and neglect in welfare services cases, Statewide Policy development, Technical Assistance, Planning, Evaluation, Report Writing, and Collaboration with Child Welfare Agencies, and external Stakeholders. Field experience in Child Welfare as it relates to child abuse and neglect is required. The ability to collect, monitor and analyze child welfare data and the ability to write evaluative continuous quality assurance reports is desirable. Statewide travel will be required with this position.
This is a full time position that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. This position may be required to work evening and/or weekend hours. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS), together in partnership with families, communities and other governmental agencies, provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. DCFS is an extremely complex organization with incredibly dedicated and professional staff committed to building strong communities through strengthening families.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
