Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals, in an institution or outpatient setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) currently has an opening for a Psychiatric Nurse II for the Residential Department located in the West Las Vegas Clinic.
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals. This position will be assigned in an outpatient setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Residential Psychiatric Nurses actively participate in a multidisciplinary team providing quality assurance surveys of SNAMHS residential placements. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying appropriate patient placement; patient health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction. Our nurses also provide crisis intervention and help develop safety plan recommendations for patients. The incumbent will help ensure compliance with CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
