The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
The Substance Abuse Counselor 2 position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services in Sparks and is a full-time position. The incumbent performs intake and substance abuse evaluations, utilizing screening and assessment instruments such as American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) to diagnoses substance abuse; develops and conducts alcohol and drug cessation and prevention classes utilizing evidence-based practices; provides in-service training and consultation as requested; documents all services provided utilizing the electronic medical record system and billing practices; maintains a caseload; and ensures clients are assisted with basic needs such as housing, budgeting, food and clothing. In addition, will assist with rehabilitative aspects such as employment and vocational goals.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Special Requirements
    Licensure as a Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
