Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Office of Traffic Safety is seeking a candidate who desires a dynamic, mission-oriented workplace to serve as a Public Information Officer (PIO) with an emphasis on research, outreach, and communications. The Office of Traffic Safety works through a variety of programs and in partnerships with other State, Federal, and local organizations to reduce deaths and serious injuries on Nevada?s roads towards Nevada?s Zero Fatalities goal. The PIO will develop print and presentation materials such as press releases, fact sheets, reports, public speaking and legislative presentations, brochures, logos, and develop and manage social and digital media including websites. Strong organizational skills and collaboration with Nevada DOT and Nevada Highway Patrol PIOs, local law enforcement, community and business groups, and media partners is key to success in this position. Additionally, the Office of Traffic Safety PIO will work with leadership to develop an agency communications plan and assist staff and grantees in specific program areas such as Impaired Driving, Pedestrian, Motorcycle, and Traffic Records; researching and recommending effective communication and outreach tools, responding to public records and media requests, and staying informed of national, state and local trends and issues in traffic safety.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
