Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
Under general direction of the Data and Technology Services Division Administrator, this position will be responsible for coordinating, directing and supervising the Nevada Department of Wildlife (Department) Geographical Information System (GIS) Program. This position supervises three full-time employees and is responsible for the wildlife and habitat data management, analysis, and mapping capacity throughout the Department. The position provides critical expertise and technical support for the management of such species as greater sage-grouse, mule deer, threatened and endangered species, and other species managed by the Department.
Incumbent will prepare and execute policies and procedures that facilitate standardized and efficient data collection, organization, storage, analysis, and dissemination practices. This includes identifying and acquiring data management and GIS software solutions, developing custom applications, performing statistical and spatial analyses, recommending hardware solutions, and integrating data management best practices throughout the Department.
Incumbent will provide operational support to all Department staff, regional supervisors, and field personnel to ensure data collection and management standards are coordinated throughout the Department. This position also serves as the point-of-contact for external requests regarding data availability and other technical inquiries.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Project management experience |

Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop software, including ArcMap and ArcCatalog 10.x and ArcGIS Pro

Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Online platform, including account and user management, content creation and management, security and permissions management, Open Data, and Story Maps |

Database development and administration using Microsoft Access, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other relational database software |
