Agricultural Police Officers are field agents and inspectors (peace officers) of the Department of Agriculture, and as such, enforce all State agricultural laws and regulations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Agricultural Enforcement Officer II is a Sworn Peace Officer for the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Animal Industry, in the Enforcement Division. The position is based out of the Elko, NV. Office. Under general supervision, the position will be trained to: provide protection of public health and safety for the residents and visitors of the state; provide inspection, investigation, and law enforcement duties for all livestock, stray/feral horses, or animal related events or incidents, to include animal health inspection requirements, theft of livestock and animal cruelty; conduct traffic stops on commercial/private agricultural vehicles on roadways and inspections at highway check sites; monitor animals entering the area or state from other areas or states and international locations, inspecting for zoonotic and non-endemic diseases; Assist State Veterinarian, State Entomologist, State Pathologist, and State Weed Coordinator, as needed for disease outbreaks and emergencies; provides law enforcement support for other NDA divisions; inspect vehicles from quarantined states for actionable quarantine insects; provide assistance to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies; train, supervise, and evaluate brand inspection personnel; and provide training of new hires in all aspects of the positions required essential functions and responsibilities. This position has a travel requirement of up to 50%.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience working with and caring for large livestock on a ranch or similar setting which included checking health records of animals, issuing brand inspection certificates, investigating agricultural or livestock crimes; OR one year of experience as an Agricultural Enforcement Officer I in Nevada State service. |

Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. |

Agricultural Enforcement Officer II and III must maintain Category II peace officer status approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST). |

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

This position requires 50% travel. |

This position may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays and may be subject to standby/callback. |
