The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
This position develops, maintains and updates the Department's website content using both HTML, CMS, and CSS; maintains Department's external newsletter using e-marketing software; handles constituent requests and responds to mail requests for information; uploads and maintains video streaming capability; develops requests for proposals and contracts for web hosting; develops materials for display on the website; develops agency internal newsletter; distributes information to the media and the public; writes press releases and feature stories for Department publications; manages Department's social media efforts through networks such as Twitter and Facebook; assist in editing written material by others; develops budget recommendations; and develops information and education programs for online distribution. This position prefers strong graphic design experience.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    This position may require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience in web design/development and web maintenance

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
